Inspiration: Little Red Riding Hood

I pondered a lot of options for costumes to go with my new leather corset. It was slow going looking for inspiration online. If I had a specific idea for a character-pirate, maid marion, etc- all I got were tacky, trashy halloween costumes. If I looked for any variation of leather/corset/costume, I got a very different type of "costume" indeed!

But then an advert for the new season of Once Upon a Time popped up and I had a great idea!

Little Red Riding Hood!

Corset + red skirt + white shirt + red cape = awesomeness.

I hit on the brilliant idea to put a shirt over my new Renaissance dress like Red wears hers in Once Upon a Time so it just looks like a skirt. All I'd need would be a cape!

In the show, Red's cape is a luxurious brocade (I think....maybe textured velvet??). Since I just spent all of my spending money on a corset, shopping the stash is a must! And wouldn't you know, I have a length of blood red stretch velveteen. It's not enough for a full cape, but there should be enough for a caplet. Besides, a caplet will show off the corset better.

I really like the harder edge they give her in the show.

And I think I need to knit myself a red beret. I do have some fingering weight red wool in my stash.....MUST NOT GET DISTRACTED!!!

Fan art is also great for inspiration for non-stereotypical ideas. This red also has a corset but is a bit darker than I want to go.

I love the fancy clasp and embroidery at the closure of this red cape.

I love the unusual choice of purple for this riding hood's dress.
